Service Dog Owner Training Program
Qualified Applicants only
Prerequisite: IA, FBTP1, FBTP2
(over-excitement issues must be resolved to qualify)
A Service Dog can be a life-changing intervention for a person with a disability. However, not every person who wishes to benefit from a dog is a suitable candidate for a service dog. There are pre-requisites needed to ensure the health and safety of the service dog in training and the public and service dogs represent considerable investments of time, energy and finances, from the process of acquiring the service dog through the entire working life of the dog (approximately 8-10 years).

A dog that demonstrates boisterous behavior, nuisance barking, hackles-up, growling, showing teeth, lunging, biting, aggression, excessive fear, over-excitement toward people/animals, or has inappropriate elimination is not ready for service dog training.

Candidates must go through rigorous socialization training by successfully completing FBTP1 and FBTP2 that spans a prolonged period of time ensuring eligibility for Service Dog Owner Training requirements.
However, being a service dog means being put in many different environments and exposed to stressors that not all dogs are suited for. It is simply not fair to the dog to put them through those situations if they are not happy and thriving doing the work.

Every dogs begins from basic to advanced obedience, to navigating public spaces, and performing complex disability mitigating tasks for their handler. However without help the process can be difficult, and overwhelming. Getting support from our specialized and knowledgeable trainers makes the process easier.

CAPR has clear treatment goals that will ensure dogs have a 97% chance at successfully understanding your needs completely and responding appropriately in stressful environments to mitigate or alleviate debilitating behavior, learning, and/or movements that are psychological symptoms in-public settings and at home. You will learn how to be an effective service dog team and handler in a sufficient amount of time.

We advocate for affordability so that an individual such as you or a loved one can receive some relief of symptoms in public without incurring financial difficulty. Therefore our programs are affordable.
